Personality & Traits
|General Overview||Generally, Iari is friendly with everyone she meets. However she can also be elusive when the mood strikes her, with a bit of aloof on the side. She has a wide base of knowledge and a variety of skills which makes her a valuable asset to any team. She is highly responsible with regards to duty, and slightly carefree with regards to her own personal safety.
|Strengths & Weaknesses||In her youth, Iari had extensive practice as a successful pick-pocket. This is a skill which has been, on occasion, a benefit within her job field.
She has an unyielding moral standard and enjoys being part of the justice system.
Iari is able to lie without giving tells (also thanks to her line of work).
|Ambitions||Peace and puppies for everyone.
|Hobbies & Interests||In her free time, Iari enjoys dancing, holodeck excursions, good food, and learning new languages.
|Personal History||Early years
Iari was born and raised on the planet Ardana in the city of Marapo. Marapo, like most cities on Ardana, specialized in mining; Iari’s parents both worked as miners. Iari’s childhood was typical... tumbles on the school playground, and struggles to finish homework on time. Overall, she was a happy and untroubled child until her mid-teens.
Though her grades were improving in school, the quality of her home life was quickly failing. Iari wanted to be something more than a miner, whereas her parents were convinced mining was the only way to earn a living on Ardana. This created a conflict which has never been resolved.
Shortly after Iari’s sixteenth year, her mother came down with a nearly fatal illness as a result of her work environment. While Ardista spent most of her time in and out of the hospital, Iari began her application process into Star Fleet Academy. When her father, Qilmol, discovered this, Iari received the worst beating of her life.
Two days later, as Iari gathered her bag for school, she stopped in her parents’ room to wish her mother well before heading off for the day. Her mother was not in the room (having gone back to the hospital late the night before); but her sister was in the room... in a not so proper fashion. Neither Qilmol nor her sister, Liloo, noticed Iari - which was fine with Iari. Iari never returned home after that.
As a run-away, Iari scrounged for survival over the following months and was in and out of the penal system for several acts of theft. With a dash of fate and a helping hand in a round-about way, Iari finally found herself at the doorstep of Star Fleet Academy with an acceptance letter in hand.
Iari excelled beyond expectations during her training at the academy. Free from a restrictive lifestyle under her parents’ care, Iari managed to maintain a strong sense of self and conducted herself respectfully. Engrossed in her studies, she expanded her curriculum to include multiple fields of interest along with various extra-curricular activities.
She participated with the Academy’s swim team, held several small roles in student theatrical productions, and took away a fair number of medals for her sharp shooting skills.
|Service Record||Post Academy years
Iari spent (approximately) the first three years out of the academy posted on a remote outpost where the scientists had the more excitement than her. While they were busy discovering ancient relics from the Kappaian dynasty, Iari's job was more research than intrigue.
It was while she was stationed here that she met Slaryn; two years later, they were married.
After her fourth year, reassignments finally began the adventure every Intel officer hopes for, yet none of them discuss. Unfortunately, it also brought about the death of Slaryn and grievous injury to Iari. After a month-long recovery period, Iari returned to duty in a new division and traveled much of the alpha quadrant in various assignments. Most recently, she she was assigned to Kepler Station on an advisory committee.
During one mission, Iari awoke to find herself looking much younger then when she went to bed the night previous. She did, however, maintain all her memories of her 40+ years, unlike some of the other people afflicted by this event. It was discovered that a previously unknown alien species was responsible for this change. The aliens had no way of knowing that their actions had caused a problem and once communications were established, they agreed to reverse their proceeding. When the time came to choose whether to return to her proper age, Iari chose to remain in her youthful body - partially out of vanity, partially in anticipation of her work with the thought of "if I knew then what I know now, I would have done that a lot differently". This decision did cause some initial issues with her job; however, the quality of work has not changed.
